Ichthyology يا ماهي شناسي ازدوكلمه Ichthys يعني ماهيان وlogy يعني مطالعه تشكيل شده است.
pices هم به ماهيان عالي و دريايي‌گفته مي شود.
دردنيا بيش از25000 نوع تا كنون شناسايي شده است.درحدود4/3 (سه چهارم )آنها مربوط به آبهاي باز و اقيانوسها ميباشدوحدود4/1 (یک چهارم ) درآبهاي خشكي(درياچـه ها ورودخـانـــه هاو...) ميباشد.
Ichthyology
(from Greek: ἰχθυ, ikhthu, "fish"; and λόγος, logos, "knowledge") is the branch of zoology devoted to the study of fish. This includes skeletal fish (Osteichthyes), cartilaginous fish (Chondrichthyes) , and jawless fish (Agnatha).
An estimated 25,000 to 30,000 fish species exist, comprising a majority of vertebrates. While a majority of species have probably been discovered and described, approximately 250 new species are officially described by science each year.
